RRR Bus to Start of NYC Marathon

One of the great benefits of RRR membership is the opportunity to get a bus ride to the start of the NYC Marathon. We have been doing this since almost the beginning and we know our members appreciate it. If you haven't done the NYC Marathon, it can be almost impossible to just have someone drop you off. However, buses are given close access to the start for participants.

The bus will leave at 6:30AM SHARP and we mean SHARP from the Palisades Mall - Lot J. The bus will have a bathroom. For members the cost is $10 and for non-members $35, which includes a one year membership to Rockland Road Runners. WHAT A DEAL! More details will be coming, but if you are interested or know someone who is interested contact enildai@aol.com. Your check made payable to RRR will reserve you a spot on the bus. Send checks to: RRR Marathon Bus, PO Box 132, Congers, New York 10920.

The bus will get you there early, so we recommend you bring warm throw away clothes, blanket or even a chair. Sitting on the floor for such a long time can be painful to your body and cause you to be stiff at the start. Just don't expect to bring them back. They will be donated to a shelter by the volunteers at NYCRR. We strongly recommend, at the minimum, several plastic black trashbags. The bags are great if the ground is wet or cold or the weather rainy.

More details on the bus will be coming, but as mentioned above, questions can be directed to Enilda Indyk at enildai@aol.com.

Local Competitive Start Qualifications for 2011 NYC Marathon

The Local Competitive Program is again available to QUALIFYING members of the Rockland Road Runners for the upcoming 2011 ING NYC Marathon. This program allows qualifying local club members who ALREADY HAVE A NYC MARATHON ENTRY to gain access to a separate start area and have a starting position up towards the front. You must meet the qualifying times for a Half Marathon or Full Marathon posted below.

If you do qualify and are interested in participating, send the following information to TeamRRR@rocklandroadrunners.org

Name; email id; NY marathon entry number; qualifying time; qualifying race; month/year of qualifying race; age (when ran qualifying race); URL link to qualifying results

You must send ALL the information above, so that it can be consolidated and forwarded on to NYRR by our club representation. Entries will not be accepted by NYRR if they are incomplete. The deadline for submissions to our club (TeamRRR@rocklandroadrunners.org) is September 23 (absolute deadline is Oct 11, but the earlier the better as there is a cap).

This is a very nice perc for those who qualify. The qualifying guidelines have changed, so please review the following:

Below, you will find the qualification standards for the 2011 ING New York City Marathon Local Competitive Program. To be accepted into this program, runners must have run a qualifying time in a half-marathon or marathon in their respective age groups between January 1, 2010 and October 10, 2011.

Club captains must submit their athletes by Tuesday, October 11th. If members of your club have already run a qualifying time, please send this information, in the provided spreadsheet (note: Logan Scott will consolidate and send the spreadsheet for RRR), as soon as you can. Please note that due to the limited space, only the first 400 runners that meet the qualifications will be accepted into the Local Competitive Program.

NYRR will verify times based on the following criteria:

Athletes who have been approved by NYRR to participate in the local competitive start program will be notified via-email once the entire field has been filled. More information will be provided to the athletes invited to participate following the entry deadline in mid October.

NYRR Team Championship 5 miler, August 6, 2011

Thank you to everyone who participated. We had a very nice turn-out and a great picnic area. Special thanks to everyone who helped with the tent, tables, chairs, food, drinks, etc.

Congratulations to Marie "Grandma" Killeen for another impressive age group victory. Also, Alexandra Finger for her 3rd place AG finish. Fantastic job!
